Nekter Juice Bar is pleased to announce the opening of its third Southern California location and first Long Beach store. Orange County’s most talked about all natural juice bar will join the Long Beach Marketplace shopping center and open doors on Monday, February 20, 2012.
Acclaimed architectural firm, Urban Arena, turned the former Golden Spoon location into a naturalist’s dream using Redwood, a soft color palette and curved accents to customize the interior of the newest Nekter Juice Bar. Through Nekter’s fresh approach, all natural products and ideal location, the brand aims to resonate with the healthy and active community of Long Beach as they have with locals in Orange County.
“We were so excited to find yet another perfect location for Nekter,” comments the brand’s Co-Founder, Steve Schulze. “We were ready to expand outside of Orange County, and Long Beach provided the ideal health conscious, energetic demographic. We can’t wait to really get to know the community.”
Nekter Juice Bar‘s flagship location opened successfully in Costa Mesa in October of 2010, shortly followed by the opening of a second location in Corona del Mar in March of 2011. Since its conception, the brand has gained extreme viral popularity, known for its fresh pressed green juice blends, raw vegan smoothies, the highest quality Acai bowls and specialty concoctions that are sweet to taste but loaded with healthy low sugar ingredients. The Nekter Cleanse has been a health phenomenon since 2010. The one-to-five day detoxification and resurgence program offers 15 pounds of local-grown freshly pressed natural fruits, vegetables and raw nuts in delicious nutrient-dense blends. This signature cleanse is available locally in Nekter Juice Bars and online.
Long Beach’s Nekter Juice Bar is located at 6467 Pacific Coast Highway, Long Beach, California, 90803 and will be open to the public seven days a week with hours of operation Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Long Beach is constantly evolving, from the first bike-friendly business district in the country to the Downtown plan.
Well our fair city is not slowing down during the opening weeks of the new-year. As of Jan. 20, Lolas Restaurant is home to the first parklet in southern California. The parklet is located right in front of the restaurant, but I can bet it didn’t get much use this weekend.
The grand opening of the parklet was a whole community event which came together with colaberative efforts of Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal, Luis Navarro (Owner of Lola’s), Studio One Eleven, JR van Dijs, Inc., Retro Row Businesses, and many more.
Parklets popped up in San Francisco in 2005 as a form of activism but soon became more about using parking spaces that were under utilized in the urban landscape.
The parklet in front of Lola’s is one of three restaurants which got approved for constructing parklets curbside. Not only are they appealing to passers-by, but they add about 20 new seats to the existing business without the cost of remodeling.
“What is that about?” asked James K., 26, local resident. After taking a closer look, he quickly commented, “Whoa, I love Lola’s as it is. Now I can eat my ‘chiles rellenos’ while I have a smoke!” Not sure if that would fly, but his enthusiasm was shared by the crowd that gathered for the event.
Have you seen the parklet outside of Lola’s? What do you think some of the drawbacks might be? Do you remember these from last years’ Park(ing) Day?
The Lofts team spent a few hours on Saturday, January 7th helping the volunteers of Save Our Beach clean up along the Long Beach coastline.
Join us for coffee and conversation on Monday, January 16, from 9am to 11am in the leasing center! Hope to see you there!
Are you cold-hearted when it comes to charity? Maybe it’s time you chilled out! On January 21, head down to Belmont Shore for the Long Beach Polar Splash & Doggie Dip. The event is a free opportunity to raise some cold hard cash for several worthy charities. There is no cost to participate. In fact, Justin Rudd’s Community Action Team (C.A.T.) is donating $10 on behalf of every person that participates in the Long Beach Polar Splash (up to $2,000). In order to “earn” a donation for one of their preferred charities, participants must submerge completely (including the head). And NO wetsuits!
When splashers arrive on event day, they’ll be asked to sign-in and choose one of several charitable causes which they want to support. Options include:
These causes are championed by the hostesses for the day: Little Miss, Teen, Miss and Mrs. Long Beach and Southern California Cities. These ladies will also be donning their swimwear and gettin’ cold for their causes. (The water temp this time of year is expected to be about 55-59 degrees.)
Polar plunges and splashes happen around this time of year all over the world and Southern California’s temperate climate is no reason not to join in the fun.
All ages are welcome. Those under 18 must have a parent/guardian present to participate. Dogs are welcome, however submerging dogs will not be allowed.
The “Long Beach Polar Splash & Doggie Dip” is set for Saturday, January 21 at 11 a.m., following the 10 a.m. “30-Minute Beach Cleanup.” The Polar Splash takes place in Belmont Shore on the eastern edge of Rosie’s Dog Beach at the orange traffic cones, basically 1 Granada Ave. Participate in the monthly Beach Cleanup and parking is free.
This event is hosted by Justin Rudd and his nonprofit 501c3 Community Action Team (CAT). CAT is supported, in whole, by funds raised at the Long Beach Turkey Trot 5K/10K and Haute Dog Parades.
